General Breed Information
The Tyroler Bracke, also known as the Tyrolean Hound or Tinolen Bracke, is a dog breed that is said to be descended from Celtic Hounds. This breed originated in Austria and the first specimen was presented in a dog show at Innsbruck in 1896. It is also believed that specimens of the Tyroler Bracke were used by Emperor Maximilian I for hunting fox and hare, as well as for tracking wounded game. This breed was granted official recognition in 1908.
The Tyroler Bracke is a medium-sized hound with a height of 16 to 19 inches and a weight of 33 to 49 pounds. Dogs of this bred have a moderately large head that is broad between the ears. Their muzzle is medium-sized, with a black nose at its tip. They have brown eyes, and ears that are moderate in length and hang close to their cheeks. The teeth of these dogs meet in a level or scissors bite. They have a very strong, moderately long neck that has no dewlap. These dogs have a broad, long, and deep chest. They have perpendicular forelegs with muscular thighs and straight hocks. Their feet are strong and round with compact toes. The tail of these dogs is long, and they have a short, bristly, and thick coat. The acceptable coat colours for this breed are yellow, yellow and red, red, black, and black and tan. They may also have small white markings.
