General Breed Information
The Seidenspitz is a toy dog breed that originated in Germany. It is a very old breed, but most of its records got destroyed during the First and Second World Wars. The records that survived revealed that two specimens of this breed were presented in a dog show in Hanover, Germany in 1925.
The Seidenspitz has a height that ranges from 7 to 12 inches and a weight that falls between 3 and 7 pounds. Dogs of this breed have a long, fine, and silky coat. Their hair is straight, and should stand away from the body in a fluffy way. Their coat should never be curly, rolled, wavy, or shaggy. These dogs have black eyes and a black nose. Their coat can be either black or white, but white dogs are more preferable.
Owners of these dogs who intend to present their dogs in the show ring should groom their Seidenspitz by clipping the hair on the paws, the ears, and the muzzle to achieve the look of the Spitz.
