General Breed Information
The Sage Mazandarani is a dog breed that originated in Iran. This breed is a close relative of the Sage Koochee, which is native to Afghanistan, and the Sredneasiatskaia Ovtcharka. It is questionable whether this breed is really a distinct breed or just a southern variation of the Sredneasiatskaia. The Sage Mazandarani also goes by the name of Hers Kosh, a term that means "bear killer." Dogs of this breed are used for hunting large game.
The Sage Mazandarani is well-boned and strong. Dogs of this breed have a straight back and long, sturdy legs. Their head is fairly narrow and large, with powerful jaws and a strong muzzle. Some of these dogs have docked tails and cropped ears. The coat of these dogs is medium length and can come in a wide variety of colours. Usually, these dogs are white with dark patches, but there are also rare ones that are solid black or black and tan. The average height of the Sage Mazandarani is 28 inches, though there are specimens that are taller than this.
