General Breed Information

The Porcelaine is a dog breed that is believed to be among the oldest French scenthounds. This breed also goes by the name Chien de Franche-Comté, after a former French region that bordered Switzerland. After the French Revolution, specimens of the Porcelaine were spotted at the Franco-Swiss border, which led people to think about whether this breed is of Swiss or French origin. Later on, the Porcelaine was classified as French, and it is thought to be a descendant of the English Harrier, the Montaimboeuf, and the smaller Swiss Laufhunds. The Porcelain has been recorded in Switzerland since 1880 and in France since 1845. This breed is not well-known outside Switzerland, France, and Italy.

Male dogs of this breed have a height that ranges from 22 to 23 inches, while females have a height that falls between 21 and 22 inches. These dogs weigh 55 to 62 pounds. The Porcelaine has gotten its name because of its shiny coat, which makes it seem like a porcelain statue. Dogs of this breed have a finely chiseled head with a flat forehead and a black nose with wide, open nostrils. Their eyes are dark in colour and bear a sweet expression. These dogs have thin ears that are pointed and conical. They have a slender and long neck. The hair of these dogs is very short, and their white coat can have orange spots.

These dogs are expected to live for around 12 to 13 years.
