Origin / History There are several theories regarding the origins of the Nebolish Mastiff. It is said that the ancestry of this breed can be traced back to Alexander the Great and Aristotle, both of whom received these dogs for protection. What is generally accepted is that the breed was developed in Canada by crossing many dog breeds. The foundation of the Nebolish Mastiff is said to include Saint Bernards, Great Danes, Boxers, and Mastiffs. These breeds were used to make the Nebolish Mastiff free from genetic health problems.

Some critics state that this breed isn't standardized and these dogs aren't purebred, but are mixed breeds. The Continental Kennel Club, however, recognizes the cross of the Neapolitan Mastiff and the English Mastiff as a Nebolish Mastiff.

Appearance Nebolish Mastiffs are large dogs that look similar to other Mastiffs. Dogs of this breed have a long muzzle, with loose lips. Their almond-shaped eyes are small. The large, floppy ears of these dogs look similar to those of the Great Dane, and hanging down the sides of their head. These dogs have a very thick neck that has folds of loose skin leading to their muscular body and broad shoulders. The legs of these dogs are long and skinny, and also look similar to the legs of the Great Dane. Nebolish Mastiffs have oval-shaped feet. Their coat has short to medium-length hair. Some specimens have long hair, but these are rare. The tail of these dogs may be left naturally or docked.

Colours The acceptable coat colours for this breed include all shades of fawn and brindle. Some dogs may also be silver in colour, but these specimens are rare. Nebolish Mastiffs may also sport markings such as a black mask and white markings.

Temperament Nebolish Mastiffs are even-tempered and alert. They don't bark excessively, although they are naturally protective. These dogs are loyal to their owners, but they may be stubborn sometimes. They are highly intelligent, affectionate, and courageous. These dogs make great companions and are often used as protectors of livestock. They also get along well with children.

Height and Weight Nebolish Mastiffs stand 27 to 36 inches tall and weigh between 95 and 200 pounds.

Common Health Problems There are no genetic health problems affecting this breed. The ailments affecting these dogs are those common to other breeds as well.

Living Conditions These dogs should not be kept inside apartments. They should be provided with at least a large yard, but they'll do best with acreage to explore. Territory boundaries should be set, and once these are established, Nebolish Mastiffs will stay confined in the area. These dogs do best in places with a warm climate that offer them opportunities to enjoy the sun and water.

Exercise Requirements These dogs need space where they can run around freely. They also love swimming and hiking, and will surely be happy when taken along for such activities. It's also important for these dogs to be taken out for long walks daily to satisfy their primal instinct to walk.

Training Requirements Nebolish Mastiffs are not advisable for first time dog owners because these dogs are highly intelligent and may try to outwit their owners. These dogs should be trained early on and should undergo proper socialization from puppyhood onwards. Owners should also know how to display strong leadership skills and make the dogs understand that humans are higher in pack rank than canines. Firm and consistent training methods will work well on these dogs, but owners must never be harsh.

Life Expectancy These dogs are expected to live for around 10 to 14 years when properly cared for.

Grooming Nebolish Mastiffs need very minimal grooming. They just need to be brushed regularly and bathed occasionally.
