General Breed Information
The Hamilton Hound is a dog breed that originated in Sweden, where it was used for hunting hare and fox. The breed got its name from Count Adolf Hamilton, the founder of Sweden's Kennel Club, who created the breed by using various German hounds such as Hanoverian Hounds and Holsteiner Hounds and crossing them with the English Foxhound. Hamilton Hounds have gained popularity in Great Britain, but they remain rare in other countries. This breed is also known as the Hamiltonstovare.
Hamilton Hounds are medium-sized dogs with a height that ranges from 20 to 24 inches and a weight that falls between 55 and 60 pounds. These dogs have a long, chiseled, and slender head with a moderately wide and slightly domed skull. They have a well-developed nose and pendulous ears that are set high on their head. The body of these dogs is rectangular, with a long, solid neck and a straight back. These dogs have dark brown eyes. Their tail is set high and is carried straight. They have a short, dense, and hard coat with a short, fine, and thick undercoat. The coat of these dogs is tricolour, with black markings on their back, on the underside of their tail, on the sides of their body, and on the top of their neck. They have brown markings on their legs, head, truck, tail, and at the sides of their lower neck.
