General Breed Information

The Grand Anglo-Francais is a breed that was developed in France during the 19th century. Dogs of this breed were used for large game hunting. They would travel in packs while tracking animals such as wild boar and roe deer. This breed was created by breeding the English Foxhound with various French hound breeds such as the Gascon Saintongeois. Although the Grand Anglo-Francais is quite numerous in France, it is rarely seen outside its native land.

The Grand Anglo-Francais has a deep chest and an elongated back. Dogs of this breed have a broad skull and a square muzzle with an abrupt stop. Their eyes are large and dark in colour, with an all-knowing, gentle expression. The ears of these dogs are pendulous and lay close to their skull. Their neck is thick and long, and their legs are well-boned. The coat of these dogs is short and sleek. These dogs have a height that ranges from 24 to 28 inches and a weight that falls between 70 and 80 pounds.

The life span of these dogs is approximately 10 to 12 years. This is a fairly healthy breed that is most often used for hunting rather than as family companions.
