General Breed Information
The German Rough Haired Pointing Dog belongs to the German Pointer breed group along with the German Shorthaired Pointer, German Longhaired Pointer, and German Wirehaired Pointer. The German Rough Haired Pointing Dog has been protected by the breed club since 1892. Dogs of this breed were not interbred with any English pointing breed. This breed was granted recognition by the United Kennel Club in 2006.
German Rough Haired Pointing Dogs can be medium to large in size. They have a slightly rounded, broad skull. Their muzzle is long and powerful, and their nasal bridge is straight. They have close-fitting lips, with the corners forming a fold. These dogs have a complete set of white teeth that meet in a scissors bite. They have a nose that can be light to dark brown. The medium-sized eyes of these dogs are slightly oval and brown in colour. These dogs have medium length ears that have rounded tips. The toes of these dogs are round and well-knit and have tough pads. They have a medium length tail that can be moderately docked. Their coat is harsh, stiff, and bristly and is approximately 1 1/2 inches long on their body. On their underside and shoulders, their coat is a little longer with some feathering. These dogs can be brown, brown roan, or light roan. They can come with or without patches.
