General Breed Information

The Goldendoodle is not a purebred dog, but rather a mixed breed or designer dog. This breed was created by crossing the Poodle and the Golden Retriever. Amy Lane, a breeder in Maryland, is credited with being responsible for the creation of this breed. Today, these dogs are acquired as family pets, but they can also make excellent guide dogs and bird dogs. The Goldendoodle is also recognised by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club and the American Canine Hybrid Club.

Goldendoodles can vary in size, with the standard Goldendoodle more than 45 pounds, the medium Goldendoodle being 30 to 45 pounds, and the miniature Goldendoodle having a weight of 15 to 30 pounds when fully grown. The coat of these dogs are generally shaggy and wavy. They can come in a wide variety of colours such as white, tan, chocolate, black, red, silver, and phantom. They may also be parti-coloured.

These dogs can live for around 9 to 15 years. The common health problems affecting this breed include hip dysplasia and eye disorders.
