Origin /
History There are two types of this breed, the short-haired hungarian Vizsla and the Rough-haired Hungarian Vizsla, or as known the Wire- haired Vizsla,. This page related to the Short Haired breed.
They were bred in Hungary to to hunt, point and retrieve game.
Appearance Lean broad head with large pendulous ears. Long strong boned legs from a relatively short body with fairly broad chest and slightly arched ribs.
Colours Russet gold. Some have small white markings on chest and feet which are acceptable but not desired by the professionals.
Temperament Affectionate, friendly, sensitive
Height and
Weight 53 - 63.5 cm in height and 20- 30 Kg in weight. Males are larger than females and at the top end of the size ranges.
Common Health
Problems Consider a healthy breed. Has been known to suffer from hip malformation, tail defects, blood disorders vin Williebrands disease and haemophillia.
Living Conditions Ideally suited to the country but will adapt to a town house so long as it has a large and secure garden. Will also need plenty of exercise and will be happier the more he is in the company of his owers or family.
Exercise
Requirements Needs lots of daily exercise. Good long walks of at least an 1 hour a day minimum, including free running time.
Training Requirements A relatively easy dog to train, they are intelliegent and eager to plase. they are quite a sensitive breed so do best with a firm patient approach.
Life Expectancy 12 years.
Grooming The short coarse gloosy coat needs minimal grroming time. A one a week once over with a bristle brush is fine.
