The Slovensky Hrubosrsty Stavac is a dog breed that originated in Slovakia. This breed was created by crossing Weimaraners, German Wirehaired Pointers, and the Cesky Fousek. The Pudelpointer also played a small role in the development of this breed. Koloman Slimak, the creator of this breed, wanted to develop dogs that would have enough stamina for pointing, tracking, and retrieving in both land and water, and be suitable for hunting a wide variety of prey, from small game to large game. In 1985, the breed was granted recognition by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale under the category of continental pointing dog.

The Slovensky Hrubosrsty Stavac is a medium-sized, strongly built breed with a body that is longer than it is tall. The maximum height for male dogs of this breed is approximately 27 inches, while the maximum height for females is around 25 inches. These dogs have a moderately long and lean head with a large, dark nose. They have almond-shaped eyes that are amber in colour. Their smooth and long ears are set right above eye level. Their shoulders are well-laid and they have a level back. These dogs have well-sprung ribs and moderately tucked up flanks. They have strong legs with well-arched feet that have dark-coloured nails. The coat of these dogs has a fine undercoat and a harsh outer coat with straight hair.
