General Breed Information

The Schiller Hound is a dog breed that originated in Sweden and is said to have been in existence since the Middle Ages. The breed standard was written and approved in 1952. This breed got its name from P. Schiller, the breeder responsible for its creation. Schiller Hounds were developed by crossing Swedish scenthounds with German, Austrian, and Swiss bloodhounds. Dogs of this breed are rare outside their homeland.

Male Schiller Hounds have a height that ranges from 19 1/2 to 23 1/2 inches, while females have a height of 18 to 22 1/2 inches. These dogs weigh between 18 and 25 pounds. They have a long and powerful body with a deep chest and slightly curved ribs. The y have a straight back and a slightly sloping croup and strong loins. The head of these dogs is cone-shaped and long with a well-pronounced stop. They have a well-developed nose and lips that are not pendulous. Their eyes are hazel in colour, and their ears are soft and pendulous. The tail of these dogs is carried in a straight manner. Their coat is strong, short, and glossy, with a thick undercoat. The Schiller Hound is black and tan in colour.
