General Breed Information

The Rumanian Sheepdog is a dog breed that originated in the Carpathian mountains located in eastern Rumania. This breed is a close relative of the mountain dogs of Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Hungary. Dogs of this breed have not been brought to the western world, and like many old working breeds, they remain in remote areas. These dogs are used by shepherds solely as working dogs and are not acquired for use as family pets. This breed also goes by the name Carpathian Sheepdog.

The Rumanian Sheepdog has a height that ranges from 24 to 26 inches and a weight that falls between 70 and 90 pounds. Their eyes and nose are dark in colour. Dogs of this breed have a tail, of which the last third is docked. The coat of these dogs is medium length, while the acceptable coat colour is white. These dogs often have coloured spots or markings on their head.
