General Breed Information

The Original English Bulldogge is a breed that was in the Wilkinson family in Scotland for several generations. Specimens of this breed were brought by the Wilkinson family to Canada in 1946. Unlike other bulldog breeds, the Original English Bulldogge is a true breed and not a recreation. Dogs of this breed are direct descendants of the original bull-baiting breed.

Male dogs of this breed have a height of 16 to 18 inches and a weight of 50 to 70 pounds. Females have a height that ranges from 15 to 16 inches and a weight that falls between 40 and 55 pounds. Their head is wide and flat, and they have a strong jaw that closes in an undershot bite. These dogs have rose-shaped ears. Their neck is medium in length, heavily muscled, and widens towards their shoulders. They have muscular shoulders, heavy forequarters, and straight, strong legs. Original English Bulldogges have a heavily muscled body with a strong brisket and a wide chest. They have a slight downward slop from their hindquarters to their shoulders, and their hindquarters are muscular and large. The tail of these dogs is docked for health purposes. They have a short and smooth coat that can be white, or white with patches of fawn, salmon, black, or brindle. They can also be tricoloured (white, black, and brindle or tan).
