General Breed Information

The Majestic Tree Hound was created for the purpose of saving the cold-nosed, large, methodical working hound as a type in the United States. The stem stock of this breed can be traced back to medieval northern France as well as the hounds of St. Hubert. Breeders of the Majestic Tree Hound say that they crossed Bloodhounds with western big-game hounds to create the Majestic Tree Hound. In 1980, Lee Newhart, Jr., along with several other individuals, founded the National Majestic Tree Hound. It was also in 1980 that the first registrations for the breed were made. These dogs were meant to work on rugged terrain. They are usually used for hunting jaguar, bobcat, lion, and bear. As coon hunters, these dogs are skilled and persistent. With their excellent scenting ability, Majestic Tree Hounds can find a track where other hounds would fail. They also keep on tracking even when other hounds would have given up.

Majestic Tree Hounds have a height that ranges from 24 1/2 to 30 inches and a weight that falls between 75 and 110 pounds. Majestic Tree Hounds are large hounds. They have a low-set, long earage, and abundant dewlap and flew. They also have facial wrinkles. These dogs have a short, dense, and thick coat that can come in any colour or colour combination.
