General Breed Information

The exact origin of the Mahratta Greyhound is shrouded in mystery. It is theorized, however, that this breed is a descendant of the Saluki because they are similar in appearance. It may also be possible that the Mahratta Greyhound is related to the Rampur. Mahratta Greyhounds are used for hunting and aren't commonly utilized as household pets. This breed is very rare and is relatively unknown outside the province of Mahratta, which is located in India.

Mahratta Greyhounds have a height that ranges from 21 to 23 inches and a weight that falls between 50 and 65 pounds. These dogs have a symmetrical and powerful body with a narrow and deep chest. Their head is narrow, long, and wide between the ears. They have large, dark-coloured eyes, and their long ears hang close to their neck. The muzzle of these dogs is long and narrow, ending in a nose that is black in colour. These dogs have teeth that meet in either a level or scissors bite. They have long, straight, powerful, and muscular legs that lead to hard, hare-like feet. These dogs have a long and feathered tail, and a short and dense coat. The coat colour of these dogs is tan and dark blue.
