General Breed Information
The Hungarian Greyhound is a dog breed that is believed to be a descendant of the Asian Greyhounds brought by the Magyars to Hungar in the 9th ninth century. These Asian Greyhounds were probably crossed with local hounds, and the offspring produced by the pairing became known as the Hungarian Greyhound. In the 19th century, these dogs were crossed with Greyhounds to make the breed faster. This breed was originally named as the Magyar Agar.
These dogs have a height of 25 to 27 inches and a weight of 55 to 66 pounds. These dogs have a relatively broad skull with a slight stop, a powerful muzzle, strong jaws, and strong cheeks. The eyes of these dogs are medium-sized and brown in colour. Their ears are medium-sized, semi-pendulous, and set fairly high. These dogs have a long and muscular body with a well-muscled neck and a relatively wide brisket. The Hungarian Greyhounds have a slightly curved loin. Their chest is deep, but not too flat, and the coat of these dogs is close-lying and not too fine. All coat colours and patterns are allowed for this breed, be it solid, brindle, or spotted.
These dogs have an average life span of around 12 to 14 years.
