General Breed Information

The Harlequin Pinscher, which originated in Germany, was developed by using smaller specimens of the German Pinscher. It's also possible that these German Pinschers were crossed with another kind of breed to have produced the Harlequin Pinscher, which has a merle colour. Fanciers of these dogs claim that Harlequin Pinschers have an outstanding temperament and are great companions. With these factors taken into consideration, it may be possible that small herding dogs such as the Berger de Pyrenees or the Sheltie may have been part of the foundation of the breed. Since the 1930s, no formal registration of these dogs have been made. Harlequin Pinschers may be extinct, but there may be plans of reviving this breed.

Harlequin Pinschers have a weight that falls between 22 and 26 pounds and a height that ranges from 12 to 14 inches. These dogs have a short and smooth coat that can be in different variations of harlequin (merle blotching either in black or white ). Due to the rarity or possible extinction of these dogs, not much is known about this breed.
