General Breed Information

The Cesky Fousek is believed to be an ancient breed, although the breed standards were only written during the 19th century. Cesky Fouseks were very popular during the mid-1800s and the First World War in the area of Bohemia. That war, however, caused the decrease in the number of these dogs. Fortunately, the breed was revived during the 1930s. Cesky Fouseks are closely related to the Stichelhaar and Drahthaar. This breed is recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.

Male dogs of this breed have a height of 23 1/2 to 26 inches and a weight of 61 to 75 pounds. Females have a height of 22 to 24 1/2 inches and a weight of 48 to 61 pounds. Cesky Fouseks are wire-haired, medium-sized pointers, whose appearance gives off the impression of endurance and strength. These dogs have a lean and long head that is set high on their neck. They have a muzzle that is slightly longer than their skull, and a nasal bridge that is moderately arched. These dogs have a strong jaw, and teeth that meet in a complete scissors bite. The almond-shaped eyes of these dogs are deep set and are dark amber to deep chestnut in colour. The acceptable coat colours for this breed include dark roan, which can have brown patches. They can also be brown without markings, or brown with ticked markings on the lower part of the limbs and on forechest.

These dogs can live for around 12 to 15 years.
