The Briquet Griffon Vendeen is a hunting dog breed that originated in France. Dogs of this breed are said to be descendants of the Gris de St. Louis's Vendeen Hounds. The Briquet Griffon Vendeen was bred down in size from the Grand Griffon Vendeen, which was a direct descendant of the Canis Segusius that were used by the Gauls. During the Second World War, many lines of the Briquet Griffon Vendeen were wiped out, making them rare dogs. But although these dogs are rare, they still have quite a number of serious admirers across the world. This breed is recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale. These dogs are used for hunting wild boar and roe deer.

Dogs of this breed have a height that ranges from 19 to 24 inches and a weight that falls between 35 and 53 pounds. They are medium-sized dogs with a stocky build. The eyes of these dogs are dark, large, and expressive, with a naturally intelligent and friendly expression. They have supple and narrow ears that are covered with long hair. The teeth of these dogs meet in a scissors bite. These dogs have a dense, wiry coat with a long, bushy outer coat and a thick undercoat. They also have heavy eyebrows and a mustache. The acceptable coat colours for this breed include fawn, white and orange, light brown, and tri-coloured. They can also have black or white markings.

The average life span of Briquet Griffon Vendeens is 12 years.
