General Breed Information

The specific origin of Bedouin Shepherd Dogs is unknown, but these dogs have been much help to the nomads in the Sahara. It is believed that tribesmen in Africa captured puppies of this breed and raised them to herd and guard their stock as well as their tents. Only the healthiest, strongest, and most clever dogs survived, and this breed improved itself even without the intervention of humans. The Bedouin Shepherd Dog is recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale and the American Rare Breed Association.

Bedouin Shepherd Dogs have a height of 23 inches or more, and a weight of 50 pounds and up. This breed has two variations, with the larger serving as a camp protector, and the smaller functioning as a herder and guardian of the flock. Bedouin Shepherd Dogs are ideal for desert life. They have a body that has hard muscles. Their limbs are long, and they have much stamina. The coat of these dogs is short and harsh and black in colour.

These dogs are difficult in nature and are considered feral by most. It's not advisable for Bedouin Shepherd Dogs to be left alone with children, other canines, and other pets.
