Origin /
History The Aryan Molossus originated in Afghanistan, and is considered to have close ties with Sage Koochee dogs and other Central Asian breeds. Dogs of this breed were used to resolve disputes among tribes in Afghanistan. When problems arise, tribesmen would approach the breeders of the Aryan Molossus. When both sides each has a dog, the two dogs would be dropped into a pit to fight. The dog that loses dies during the fight or is killed afterwards. In using these dogs, tribes and individuals are able to solve their problems without any human casualties.
Nowadays, the Aryan Molossus is a very rare breed. These dogs can be found only in the mountain regions of Afghanistan, because they were taken there during the Soviet occupation in an attempt to save the dogs from being killed by Russians. At that time, Russians were destroying these aggressive indigenous dogs.
Appearance The Aryan Molossus is a large dog with a muscular and well-built body. Dogs of this breed look scruffy and they vary in appearance. These dogs have a very dense, plush, short coat, and their undercoat is also very dense. The eyes of these dogs are dark-coloured. These dogs have a deep and muscular chest. The tail of these dogs are held high and are curled over their backs. They are also recognized more because of their geographic origin and not due to their physical characteristics.
Colours Dogs of this breed are usually grey-sable in colour. Some dogs, however, may sport white markings on their chest and feet.
Temperament Being a dominant dog, the Aryan Molossus shouldn't be placed near other dominant dogs, especially those of the same sex. Dogs of this breed are courageous and good-natured. These dogs are very wary of strangers, and they would be ready to defend and protect their owners. Their loyalty and courage make them excellent watchdogs and guard dogs.
