General Breed Information
The Affenpoo is not considered as a purebred dog. Rather, it is the result of the crossbreeding of the Poodle and the Affenpinscher. Because the Affenpoo is a cross of these two breeds, it has the mixture of characteristics of the Affenpinscher and the Poodle. Affenpoos may be used as watchdogs or can be kept simply as family pets. These dogs are usually a mix of 50% Poodle and 50% Affenpinscher blood. Not all Affenpoos are bred from purebred breeds, though. Some breeders use multi-generation crosses to create Affenpoos.
Affenpooos are small dogs with a height of 10 to 11 inches. Their coat is usually coarse, and they are often just plain black in colour. There are specimens, however, that have grey or russet brown markings. When it comes to grooming, the Affenpoo must have its coat plucked like the Affenpinscher. First time or inexperienced dog owners will find it best to bring their Affenpoos to a professional dog groomer occasionally to have the coat plucked.
