Group Utility Dogs (KC)

Origin / History Originated in Tibet and bred for herding cattle in mountain terrain, as well as a guard and companion dog for the herder.

 

Appearance Medium length head with slightly shorter muzzle and loose hanging ears. Square shaped , body with well sprung ribs. Legs are fairly long and strong bone with large round feet. Curly tail.

Colours All colours, typically white, black, golden, cream, grey, smoky as well as particoloured and tricoloured.

Temperament Affectionate, lively, intelligent,

Height and Weight 35.5 - 40.5 cm in height and 8 - 13.6Kg in weight. Males are slightly larger than the females.

Common Health Problems An alround healthy breed. Although when choosing a puppy make sure they have been tested for hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy and dislocation of the eye lens.

Living Conditions Will live in a the country or a town. There main priority is to be within the company of there owner as much as possible.

Exercise Requirements Will get by with a basic standard daily walk. Will certainly enjoy much longer or more frequent walks.

Training Requirements With firm and consistent training this breed can do very well at obedience and agility training and trials.

Life Expectancy - 14 years.

Grooming Long, fine smooth or wavy coat that has a fine wooly undercoat. Requires good daily brush to prevent tangles. Facial hair, which is long and bearded needs cleaning after meal times. Coat also needs clipping every 2 - 3 months.
