Origin /
History The Samoyed originates from Russia where it was bred in the Tundra regions for guarding large herds of reindeers. They were also used for for hunting and drawing sleighs.
Appearance They have a wide wedge shaped head with medium size muzzle and medium sized prick ears. The body is medium in length, deep chested and with well sprung ribs.
Colours Most commonly they are white, but also cream, biscuit.

Height and
Weight 46 - 56 cm in height and 23 - 30 Kg in weight. Males are the larger and at the top end of the ranges, with females smaller at the lower end.
Common Health
Problems Considered a healthy breed. Health problems its been known to suffer from are hip malformation, kidney disease, diabetes and heart conditions.
Living Conditions Ideally this breed is suited to the wide open space of the country. Can adapt to life in a town house, so long as it has access to a large garden and gets plenty of daily exercise.
Exercise
Requirements An active breed which needs alot of exercise on a daily basis, including off the lead free running time in the country or local park.
Training Requirements A strong willed breed, not the easiest to train. Does best with firm, consistent and a patient training approach.
Life Expectancy 14 - 15 years.
Grooming Has a long straight, standout coat , with a short undercoat which requires brushing everyday to prevent tangles and matting. Moult's heavily twice a year and during those times will need even more grooming attention.
