Origin / History

Appearance

Colours Black, blue, harlequin, brindle, golden yellow.

Temperament

Height and Weight 71 -86 cm in height. 45 - 54 Kg in weight. Males are generally bigger than the females.

Common Health Problems Joint problems, eye problems, Bloat, Von Willebrands disease.

Living Conditions Danes are large dogs so need large living space. Suited to large rooms and big fenced gardens.

Good natured with children, but these are large and sometimes active and clumsy dogs so take that in consideration if you have very young small children or live with anyone elderly.

Exercise Requirements Need a fair amount of exercise, so either one long walk or a couple of decent short walks, preferably with some off lead activity.

Training Requirements Great Danes are a large and strong breed so owners will also need to be physically strong to handle them. They are an intelligent breed, which is also deemed sensitive so needs firm but very encouraging training methods combined with plenty of praise.

Life Expectancy 7 - 10 years.

Grooming They have a short coat which needs basic once a week brushing to remove dead hairs and skin.
