Group Utility Dogs (KC)

Origin / History It's thought that this breed originated in the UK from Bulldogs which were introduced to France in the 1850's.

Appearance Square broad head and muzzle. Lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw. Large bat like ears. Short, broad, deep chested body. Forlegs are short and longer than hindlegs and thick boned. Very short tail.

Colours Brindle, white and brindle, fawn.

Temperament Calm, sensitive, quiet, affectionate,

Height and Weight 28 - 33cm in height and 11-12.5 Kg in weight. Males and females are similar in size.

Common Health Problems As with all short muzzle breeds they are likely to suffer from breathing problems and over-heating. May also suffer back, hip and eye problems.

Living Conditions Will be happy at home in the country or ion town house. Would prefer a house with a garden. Enjoys being with owners and participating in family fun and games.

Exercise Requirements Needs at least one good walk a day. Would happily walk longer or go out for more outings. Need to be aware that they don't overheat when walking out on sunny days.

Training Requirements Will learn obedience relatively easily. Learns best when training sessions are lots of fun.

Life Expectancy 11 - 12 years.

Grooming A short, dense soft coat is easy to groom and just needs a weekly brush to remove dead hair and skin. Its a low moulting coat. The face wrinkles and around the eyes need daily cleaning to prevent infections.
