Group Gun Dogs (KC)

Origin / History One of the oldest English spaniel breeds.

 

Appearance Not so broad head, with square muzzle with pendulous, lobe shaped long thin ears. Short body with deep chest and well sprung ribs and fairly short strong boned legs.

Colours A wide range of colours both solid and multicolored, such as golden, blue roan, red, black and white, orange and white, lemon and white, black and tan.

Temperament Energetic, playful, gentle, happy.

Height and Weight 35.5 - 43 cm in height and 12 - 15.5 Kg in weight. Males are slightly larger than the females.

Common Health Problems An alround healthy breed. May suffer from some hereditary problems, including, progressive retinal atrophy. Also heart problems, dislocating kneecaps and kidney disease.

Living Conditions An adaptable breed, ideally suited to life in the country but will happily live in a town house or even apartment as long as they get plenty of exercise including visits to the park

Exercise Requirements An active breed which needs a good long walk or a couple of decent length short walks a day. Visits to the park and playtime in the garden to burn off some energy. If not exercised enough they may become destructive as well as overweight.

Training Requirements Ideally suited to training, they are intelligent and eager to please. Do best with firm, but gentle training. A working dog that can easily be distracted by scents when off lead.

Life Expectancy 12 - 15 years.

Grooming Long, smooth and silky coat needs a good brush everyday. Coat also needs clipping or stripping every few months or so.
