Origin / History The breed is named after King Charles I who was particularly fond of the breed in which they appear in paintings with him.

A breed which is very rarely seen outside of Britain.

Appearance Arched broad head with short upward muzzle. Long handing , flat ears, Broad body with deep chest and well sprung ribs. Short good boned legs.

Colours There are 4 colour types each of which has its own name. King Charles is black and tan. Prince Charles is white and black with tan markings. Ruby is chestnut colour. Blenheim is white with chestnut.

Temperament Affectionate, gentle, devoted to owner, lively, playful,

Height and Weight 24 - 30 cm in height and 5.5 - 8Kg in weight. Males are usually slightly bigger than the females.

Common Health Problems Fairly healthy breed, possibly suffer from hereditary heart condition know as mitral valve disease. May also suffer hip (dysplasia) and eye problems.

Living Conditions Adapt well to active life in the country or as a lap dog for an owner in an apartment.

Exercise Requirements May appear a sleepy breed when its comfy indoors but is does need a standard daily walk as much as any other dog. Will enjoy play time and longer country treks.

Training Requirements Will learn the basic obedience commands but not easy to teach much more. Not a breed you'll often see used in obedience and agility trials.

Life Expectancy 10 - 11 years.

Grooming Long, silky straight coat. Some have slight wave and profuse feathering. Needs a daily brush.
