Origin / History Originated from being various English terrier breeds, including the Yorkshire terrier, Cairn Terrier and Dandie Dinmont which were crossed with the Australian Silky Terrier. they were used to hunt small vermin.

Appearance

Colours Blue and tan. Solid tan or solid red.

Temperament

Height and Weight 24 - 27 cm in height. Around 6.5 Kg in weight. Males and females are generally around the same size.

Common Health Problems Generally an alround healthy breed. If anything they may be slightly prone to skin allergies, which is why flea control is of particular importance for this breed. Also, diabetes, thyroid disorder and dislocating knee caps.

Living Conditions Suited to country house or town houses with securely fenced gardens.

Exercise Requirements For a small breed the Australian Terrier needs alot of exercise to keep it fit and healthy and also to reduce an mischief it might get up to if it gets to much pent up energy and boredom.

Training Requirements Not easy to train, but can with experience, patience and persistence can be trained to a high level of obedience training. Not easy to recall off the lead.

Life Expectancy 12 years.

Grooming Basic once a week brush is enough for this breed
