March Web Site Traffic Increase

March was another growing month for traffic to the web site, with unique visitors increasing 50% on February's total.

The site still appears not to have aged enough for the Google search engine so doesn't yet have any particularly good rankings for primary keyword terms.

Mainly during the month of March a number of dog pictures pages were added or updated. I've hired help for that time consuming task and hopefully the addition of new pictures and pages will keep growing at an ever increasing rate. So far its been a bit of slow process.

April is set to be the best month yet!

February Best month so far

With lots of new pages added throughout the month of February, combined with many pages from January being picked up by the search engines its no surprise that site traffic on a monthly basis was at a new high for the month.

Hits at the end of the month were averaging about 100 a day.

At some point during this month I intend to actively start the Internet marketing of the site. Currently I still have a number of outstanding jobs adding content and planning for more content to be added during this new month of March.

As far as Google is concerned, the site doesn't appear to have aged, and isn't ranking for any decent search terms. It only seems to pick up hits for one off long tail terms.

The site did start picking up more traffic from search engines Yahoo and MSN during the month.

Goal 1 - Just missed out

Goal 1 was to reach and maintain 100 unique hits a day,, so a total of 700 or more for the week.

Well its Monday morning so I checked the hits stats for last week and the total was 675, so missed out on reaching the target. (However, if I look at it on a more positive note over the last 2 weeks I have exceeded the total of 100 hits a day average!!).

I'm not overly concerned, my original target over 2 months ago was to have the site getting a hundreds hits a day by the end of December 2007, so Im well placed to achieve that.

Also, the response to my request for dog pictures was so huge Ive not had any spare time to do any kind of promotion to reach the target, but at the same time have improved the foundations of the site so much, far more than I previously imagined.

Goal 1 - So far achieved

The goal was to achieve 100 hits a day for last week. Well that goal was achieved as the site had over 900 hits. Alot of those came at the begining of the week as I contacted dog rescues to be listed on my site and dog breeders for dog pictures.

However the goal was to reach a level where 100 hits a day average could be maintained. Yesterday that wasn't the case, although not far off. I'll have to see how it goes over the next 7 days. Ideally I want to keep the momentum going.

I've still got plenty of emails with dog photos to go through and get adding to the site.

Here's the very latest, Boerboel pictures

Goal - 100 hits a day from next week

I've been working alot behind the scenes of the complete dogs guide building lots of content for the web site, although most of it is spread across many part finished pages which aren't ready to be fully uploaded just yet. Most of those being dog breed pages.

I haven't done any promotion at all since trying to partner with some Dog Rescues web sites a few weeks ago.

Currently the site is getting 36 hits a day based on last weeks daily average. I just think now, coming to the end of the month it's about time the site started getting a bit more traffic and more visitors can actually start benefiting from the hard work going into the site.

My goal is to reach 700 unique daily hits next week, starting Monday, so an average of 100 a day. Importantly it must be done in a way so that the average number of daily unique visitors will remain at 100 a day (preferably more). This will be great as it immediately means I'll be set for reaching over 3000 visitors for the month of December.

My plan starts now and involves me completing and incorporating into the site as many new pages as possible so they start picking up the odd hit from the search engines, which they will do if they are deemed good quality content.

At some point I'll try and get some more links to the site., which is obviously easier the more good quality content I have!

First Visitor From Yahoo

One month and 4 days into launching the web site and today I got my first visitor from Yahoo search engine.

By amazing coincidence the term was for the exact same search term as the very first visitor who found my website via Google over 3 weeks ago, yes the mis spelling of "Cezar Milan" (the Dog Whisperer), which should have been spelt Cesar Milan.

This time the mis-spelling was on my Dog Psychology page which Ive since corrected.

In general traffic is pretty non existent, with approximately 6 hits a day from search engines and then just a few more from links I've been given on some other dog sites, mainly dog rescues.

However, this is fully as I expected. I'm working hard on good informative pages behind the scenes which I hope to start uploading to the site starting next week or the week after. The more good content I add the more hits I'm sure to start receiving.

First Website Visitor!!!

10 days into starting my blog and website, the site has been found by a visitor!!!

The term "Cezar Milan" the Dog Whisperer, BUT, would you believe it I spelt his name WRONG and it should be "Cesar Milan". I'm going to have edit the original post and correct the spelling. Can't believe I spelt his name wrong. SHAME!

I was actually found by google.se , which is the Sweden google search engine, so likely whoever found my blog couldn't read a word of it.

Setting Website Goals for Authority Site

I've been busy all day piecing together pages of the website from content I have been writing the last couple of weeks.

Making changes, checking spellings and grammar, adding meta tags to each page. Boring stuff I know, but only because I had a backlog of written content built up. When the foundations of the website are in place I will much prefer concentrating on specific pages and then adding them to the site as they are completed.

Anyway, one thing I did do on the About Us page was to set my goals in writing. It's important to have goals so you know what your aiming for.

My ultimate site goal is:
1)Create the ultimate interesting and informative dog site. An authority dog site.
2)Build a huge traffic site, I'm aiming for 3 million visitors a month and 15 million pageviews.

The traffic goal is what give me an extra buzz. It's all well and good creating an awesome website, but if hardly anyone is benefiting from reading it, whats the point?

I've set the traffic goals seemingly mega high. Previously I have worked on 2 sites that could be deemed authority sites in there fields. However they were in niches. With my dogs site I'm going mainstream. :)

Niche Site 1 has approximately 30,000 unique visitors a month with over 300,000 page views.

Niche 2 site has approximately 140,000 unique visitors a month and 850,000 page views.

I figured something mainstream like dogs, I should be able to get more than 15 - 20 times as many visitors.

How long will it take? No idea, I haven't even had a single hit to my blog yet.

Statcounter Added

Now that the site is indexed in Google it is theoretically possible, albeit unlikely at this early stage that the website may actually be found by someone surfing the Internet.

I have added an invisible Statcounter to the index page code and the blog template so I can see if the site does start to get any hits.

The statcounter is free, all you have to do is create an account and follow the basic step by step process. I opted for the free invisible statcounter and it generates a code which you then just add to the base of the page.

How long will I have to wait till my first hit????
