152 New Rare Dog Breed Profiles

Its been quite a little on the blog front, reason being I have been pulled away to work on other projects.

However, today I incorporated 152 new dog breed profile pages into the site. I have called them rare dog breeds because they are not UK breeds, so although some may be common in other countries they would very rarely been seen in the UK.

I still have a large number of breeds to add as well as interlink many of the pages, which will be easier to do once all dog breeds are completed.

Site Improvements

Today I worked on improving the dog breeds section of the site as I felt a number of pages could be interlinked better, ie linking from one relevant page to another. However after working through a few pages I gave up as I would need to redo the job once more dog breed profiles are added.

I have many more of those dog breed profiles to add and that's something I'll be aiming to complete this month.

Popularity of Designer Dog Breeds

I was doing a little research today regarding what dog related search terms people search for on the Internet.

I was quite surprised to find the many hybrid breeds, in particular the poodle hybrid breeds are actually searched for, albeit most not in large quantities.

One surprise in particular was the Maltipoo (Malti-Poo) was surprising popular. Maybe its a breed owned by a well known celebrity, or bought to prominence by some other means.

Anyway, Ill certainly have to have a look into adding some information on some of the more popular hybrids at some point in the future.

Earmarked 381 New Dog Breeds

I have today earmarked another 381 dog breeds to be written about and added to the site in the near future.

I'm trying to workout the best order to add them to the web site. I could just start by doing in alphabetical order and working through each and every one or I could do in the order of popularity. One way I'd do that is by researching how many people search for each breed name.

I'm pretty sure there's still a number of breeds I can add to the list. What makes it confusing is that depending on where people live in the world they sometimes refer to teh same breed by a number of different names.

It's also going to be quite expensive getting all these breeds researched and written about.

Added Two Australian Dog Breeds

New breeds today were the Australian Cattle Dog, which is sometimes referred to as the Queensland Heeler, Blue Heeler or Australian Heeler. I'm pretty sure I've seen this breed featured a couple of times on the Dog Whisperer.

It's an active herding breed, not really suited as a companion pet. As of yet I don't have any pictures of the breed.

Another breed from down under added today was the Australian Kelpie. Both breeds are recognised by the Kennel club as well as being in the Pastoral Dogs category.

Argentine Dogo

Added a great breed today, the Argentine Dogo along with plenty of great dogo pictures, including plenty of Argentine Dogo puppy pics.

They are not recognized as a breed here in the UK, in fact it is illegal to actually own one as they come under the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act.

In those countries they are allowed they certainly need strong and firm owners. They are a powerful and muscular breed.

Here's a picture which shows 2 at a time, from Raul Tradicion Argentina Dogos

American Bulldog Breed Page

I have just added a page dedicated to the American Bulldog. A popular U.S breed, which is quite a bit different from our well known English Bulldog breed, from which the American Bulldog originated.

I got this great photo of Ripley, a Johnson American Bulldog. The photo was sent in by Emma who runs Emma, Ripley Wrinkles. Her site has plenty more pics of other American bulldogs, Chevy and Bubbaas well as information. She also provides some good infomation on Hip dysplasia and joint problems which she says can be helped greatly by "feeding a natural diet and supplementing with large doses of Ester-C".

Alaskan Malamute Dog Breed

Today I added a good page dedicated to Alaskan Malamute dog breed.

An ancient breed which is well known in history for assisting Admiral Richard Byrd to the South Pole. They are not a common breed, mainly due to be a working dog breed for jobs you don't often see performed on a daily basis.

Check out this picture of an Alaskan Malamute sent in by Stuart www.sledog.com.

Affenpinscher and Afghan Hound Dog Breeds

Added 2 new breed pages today, first up was a toy terrier, the Affenpinscher. A small but typically lively terrier breed which in the UK only comes in the colour black.

Next was the very elegant Afghan Hound. A beautiful unique looking dog. I remember years ago some neighbours who lived in the house opposite us has 2 of them. Actually it is one of those breeds you do see more often in pairs than singly owned.

At time of writing I still require some pictures of these breeds.

Long Tedious Day with Light at end of tunnel

I spent half my day contacting U.S dog rescues in the hope of building some link partnerships with some of them, so in the future I can send visitors from my site to there sites, for more info and possibly make donations.

I've had it on my mind lately how to get dog breed photos. Well, I found a site on the web where people had submitted photos of breeds and some had email addresses to contact them to ask permission for use of the photo.

So, I just bit the bullet and decided to spend the whole day (well rest of the day and OVERTIME!) , contacting each and everyone of them. Now some people would do a long winded job like this over a few days or a week or more. Not me, I want this job done and out the way.

It was a long a tedious job, especially after emailing dog rescues. However there's light at the end of the tunnel. I'm hoping Ill be sent lots of dog breed photos or at least be given the permission to use some from existing web sites.

Who knows I might strike up some much needed link partnerships.

All the emailing is certaining doing well for my goal of 100 hits a day. I've had just over 200 unique hits today and theres 3 hours of the day left.

I'll no doubt be buried in emails the next few days. Now that's certainly something I want!!!!

New breed pages

I uploaded approximately 60+ dog breed pages today. Most are incomplete or at least not of a standard I would show them to owners of each breed. My hope is that some of them will be picked up by the search engines and starting contributing a little to my hits target for next week and by then I'll have work through most and improved them.

I've been working all day, going through each one and spell checking, and interlinking with the rest of the website. Still got some interlinking to do.

I'm intending to go through each breed page one ata time and improve them and then see if other related sites think they are worthy of being linked to. Many of them I don't even have breed pictures for.

It's an ancient Japanese breed and is one of the most popular companion dogs in Japan today.

Just check out this great picture sent to me by basenjirescue.us

Splitting The Shar Pei Breed into 2 seperate Breeds

I have just split in two the first of my dog breeds pages. I chose a very interesting breed, the Shar Pei, at the time I didn't realise just how interesting it was going to be.

I set up the basics of the page and contacted a few Shar Pei website owners, such as Shar Pei rescue centers and breeders. I got a good response from a man name Eric from Hong Kong who runs hkshar-pei.com. He pointed out to me the differences between the Western world Shar Pei and the more original Traditional Shar Pei. I was originally putting the information together on the one Shar Pei page, but then decided it would be alot better to actually split the breeds onto separate pages, as they are indeed quite different.

The Traditional Shar Pei is a much more healthy breed, a bone mouth rather than the wrinkly meat mouth Shar Pei which see in for example the UK and the U.S .A. Unfortunately the western world Shar Pi has been poorly bred and suffers from alot of heath issues, most of which are to do with giving it a the wrinkly appearance. It was also once one of the world's rarest dogs and breeders mades thousands of dollars from breeding them, hence money first, healthy secondary.

First Dog Breed Page - the Shar Pei

My original plan was to hold back on any web site promotion just to see how many of my sites pages got indexed into Google without any links pointing to the site.

Anyway, after completing my first dog breed page, that of the very interesting dog breed, the Shar Pei I couldn't help but inform some other Shar Pei sites and hopefully gain some links partners as well as any extra specialist advice they could offer and well as some Shar Pei pictures.

Response was quick, along with compliments on the site and promised photos to come. :)

Nothing motivates me more than good feedback and actual responses and progress. Some of the sites I emailed appeared to have been up for years and you never know if the webmasters are actually still running the site.

Anyway, was a good start.
